CEMICRO - Micro Manufacturing Competence Network
Thus, the Cemicro Network will carry out the mission of promoting cooperative work including the various domains associated with micro-manufacturing processes regarding the development of entrepreneurial initiatives.
AIMS
This mission will be held according to the following strategy:

An activity based on a national institution network with complementary skills in important areas of micro-manufacturing in order to create technological and scientific development routines with the purpose of creating knowledge;

Establishment of international partnerships with institutions in this area;

Focus on a product development scheme allowing the construction of a portfolio of necessary skills;

Development of national and international projects that demonstrate and disseminate technologies associated with micro-manufacturing between R&D partners and companies;

Cooperation between institutions connected with the various educational degrees and professional training in order to develop suitable human resources training initiatives in this area. Emphasis will be given to training regarding 2nd and 3rd cycles of high education in which the institutions that are associated with the network will cooperate with international prestigious institutions. These international institutions are required to have a partnership with the Portuguese State in order to give support to students that intend to make their training abroad (in research and/or industrial environment). However, the presence of senior researchers in Portugal concerning network areas will be emphasized through contacts that are already established. Thus, others which will be established in a near future in order to assure knowledge transfer;

Support to entrepreneurial initiatives regarding this activity to develop new products and search for new markets;

Support in creating new national companies in a 5 year deadline (with or without previous incubation) and capturing foreign technological-based investment regarding networks and motivated by the skills that the proponents have gained meanwhile;

Active role in Safety and Health at Work. Manipulating materials at micrometric and nanometric scales entails procedures that eliminate environmental contamination whether in manufacturing or during the component/equipment’s lifetime.
Regarding a
competence network, OPEN is representative of
Entrepreneurship component. Its participation regards fostering and stimulating
entrepreneurship by supporting innovative projects that are a result of the
activity developed by the network. This leads to a definite and effective
materialization by the creation of new enterprises based in new micro-machining
technologies. The support given will include the promotion of contacts with
investors, followed by the financing of new entrepreneurial projects, in the
development of Business Plan and legal constitution of companies processes, as
well as the incubation of entrepreneurial projects during the first three months
of activity.
